Predestination Christianity and Romans Free Essays
string(33) " fair and that he is not loving\." Predestination is one of the most widely debated topics in the Christian world among many denominations today. There are many differing views and it is a harder topic to explain and understand. Often this topic is argued by twisting or taking the bible out of context. We will write a custom essay sample on Predestination: Christianity and Romans or any similar topic only for you Order Now On the other hand many people truly donââ¬â¢t understand predestination and what it means or what it is. Others donââ¬â¢t want to understand predestination because of their fear that it might be truth. This paper will be outlining predestination and Calvinism by explaining this view as well as taking a deeper look into how Romans Galatians fits into this view. Predestination has been defined in many ways by the many different denominations. Predestination is ultimately defined in our final destination is decided by God before we were even born. God decides if we are to be saved or not. He has foreordained all things that have come to pass and will continue into the future. It is the act that God chooses those whom he wants to be saved and the rest are left for eternal punishment in hell. This is not because God is unloving but because he is just and righteous. In the end the goal and duty as Christians are to bring glory to God and to evangelize as many as possible. Our concentration should be on Christ. Predestination is divided into two parts: election and reprobation. Election is unconditional and absolute; it is Godââ¬â¢s election of man to salvation, not because of manââ¬â¢s works or merit. Election and reprobation have their basis in the good pleasure of God. Reprobation is defined as preterition and condemnation. Preterition is the passing over of some in the decree of election. God owes man nothing but judgment shown in Matt 20:15. God chooses whom he wants and man cannot justly argue against God for passing over him in election, which is Godââ¬â¢s choice of condemnation. Godââ¬â¢s choice of saving people is the same as Godââ¬â¢s choice of the condemnation of others. Condemnation is an act of God as a sovereign judge. This condemnation comes from sin, which also damns man to hell. In order for God to be righteous and glorified those who are in sin should be punished. Everything is done for the glory of God 2 Tim 1:9, Heb. 2:10. The fact that some are elected and others are not is explained through Godââ¬â¢s glory and sovereignty. Anything that God does is for his glory and this is best demonstrated through his decrees. The decrees of God are his eternal purpose according to the council of His will, where by for His own glory, He hath foreordained what so ever comes to passâ⬠(Shorter Catechism #8). Godââ¬â¢s decrees are free, sovereign, absolute, and efficacious. Godââ¬â¢s decrees are free in that he moves by his own good pleasure. Godââ¬â¢s decrees are sovereign because nothing occurs outside of Godââ¬â¢s control or knowledg e. God is a God who reigns and is in control and not limited in any way. Godââ¬â¢s decrees are absolute because they are not dependent upon any conditions that are not themselves determined by divine decree. Godââ¬â¢s decrees are efficacious in that they infallibly determine the certainty of the future events decreed. These decrees are for Godââ¬â¢s glory alone and not all ways for the good of the creature. Godââ¬â¢s decrees relate to all events and comprehend all things in heaven and in earth. Therefore His providence is determined through his decrees. Though Godââ¬â¢s providence he preserves and directs all his creatures. In the view of predestination God cares especially for his elect. In predestination the more debated topic is that of manââ¬â¢s free will. This free will is the choice that man has to choose God or choose to let the Holy Spirit work. This free will can be defined as freedom of indeterminacy or uncertainty, freedom of self-determination, and the power to contrary choice. Self-determination is directing ones self from the inside with no direction from the outside. The argument against predestination determines that a sinner freely chooses God or rejects Christ. The question of will is not whether man wills or even has a will, but whether God determines their will for good. Likewise the question is not whether a man chooses; but whether his choice has a cause or reason. This choice or lack there of is shown through the fact that man is a slave to sin John 8:34. As a slave to sin can man truly choose that which is good? One example of this is in the truth that God cannot lie. It is against his nature. God does not want to lie, so he cannot lie through his own free will Titus 1:2. Some verses talking about the will of man include John 6:65 which states, ââ¬Å"no one can come to me unless it has been granted to him by the father. â⬠In John 17:12 Jesus says that he has kept all those whom God has given him. According to John 6 man in his free will cannot believe because it is not in his heart to do so. Predestination suggests that if man can choose God by the free will of his corrupt and perverse heart, it gives him more liberty and power than God himself. There is a barrier that every man cannot over come. That is the barrier of sin. It is not that he doesnââ¬â¢t want to choose God, although that is involved, it is that he cannot come to God, because he does not have the spiritual capacity to change his own heart and deny his own nature. Man always chooses sin and that which is corrupt unless he has a changed heart. Man is full of corruption. Therefore, manââ¬â¢s free will gives man nothing and is not the source of his salvation. The issue comes up that God is not fair and that he is not loving. You read "Predestination: Christianity and Romans" in category "Papers" If God were just and fair all humans would be in hell suffering eternal damnation. Mat 22:14 suggests that many are called but few are chosen. Here is al list of verses supporting predestination: John 8:6-7; Rom 11:5-7; John 6:12, 37-39, 44, 46, 65; John 15:16; John 3:5-7, 19-20; John 15:16-19; 2 Cor 5:14-17; 2 Tim 1:9; Matt. 20:16; John 8:34; Romans 8:6-7; and 2 Tim 2:26. Predestination came about through the works of Calvin, which later was named Calvinism. This view has give major points known in the word Tulip which is total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and perseverance of the saints. Romans Galatians include many verses on the subject of Calvinism and many of this view use Romans as one of the most powerful books toward their argument. The first point total depravity is strongly upheld in Romans. This is the total inability of man. Manââ¬â¢s nature is corrupt, perverse, and sinful throughout. The word ââ¬Å"totalâ⬠in this point refers to the whole man and being are depraved. Manââ¬â¢s nature is sinful because of the sin that Adam committed in the very beginning. We are dead in sin. Man is utterly depraved and cannot come to God on his own accord. This is what Paul was trying to portray to the Romans. Chapter 3 best demonstrates this truth about manââ¬â¢s state in this world. The first verse in Romans that points to mans sinful nature and inability to accept God is in Rom 1:20 which states, ââ¬Å"For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. â⬠This verse emphasizes that God has given man enough knowledge about himself through this world and nature to condemn man. This shows that evangelism doesnââ¬â¢t even have to be present for man to be condemned. Humanity was condemned the day it was born. Man is depraved from the heart and cannot come to God unless the Holy Spirit calls him and changes his heart. Chapter 1 also demonstrates the vileness and depravity of the people in Rome. Verses 24-25 say, ââ¬Å"Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. â⬠Paul continues this same topic into chapter 2 and 3 of Romans. Verse 6 of chapter 2 says, ââ¬Å"He will render to each one according to his works. â⬠God punishes those whom he wants because He is a just God. This same judgment is taken through verses 12-29. Paul then continues in chapter 3 preaching on the inability of man. This chapter is the strongest support of this point of Calvinism. Verse 9 begins to show that Jews are no better than any other human being. Paul was preaching directly to the Jews telling them that no one is righteous, not even one vs. 10. He continues in vs. 11-12 ââ¬Å"no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one. â⬠There are none righteous in the whole world. The second point of Calvinism is the unconditional election of man. God chooses certain individuals from fallen sinners to receive grace and salvation. God could have saved all men from condemnation or he could have chosen to save none but by his grace he has chosen those whom he wants. This choice was not because of manââ¬â¢s works but instead by the mercy and will of God 1 Thes. 5:9, Eph. 1:5. This point is also shown through Galatians revealing that our salvation is through grace not of works lest any one should boast. In Romans 1 also shows that God passes over some and chooses others. Verse 6 calls the elect the chosen ones of Christ. He chose to give over these Roman sinners to the desires of their heart in order that they may receive their due punishment. God also darkens the hearts of those he chooses. Romans 8:28-30 states, ââ¬Å"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the first-born among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. â⬠This verse most specifically talks about predestination because it mentions the word as well as how God works in the process of salvation. In these verses we see that God does predestine mankind to be saved or for condemnation. Those he chose he also called. Later in vs. 33 Paul directly references Gods elect. The strongest passage for unconditional election is Romans 9 speaking on the subject of Godââ¬â¢s sovereign choice. Paul was taking examples from the Old Testament. Paul calls the elect as the children of promise in vs. 8. God chooses not because of what man did but because of hi own will. Verse 10-24 talks about Godââ¬â¢s purpose in election. He chose man before he was even born having done nothing bad or good vs. 1. Verse 13 states that ââ¬Å"Jacob have I loved, but Esau I have hatedâ⬠. This shows the will and sovereignty of God. Paul continues to emphasize that God is fair and he does what he chooses with whom he chooses. Many suggest that God is not fair and that God is showing favoritism when he chooses some and not others but God himself says in vs. 15 ââ¬Å"I will have mercy on whom I have merc y, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. â⬠Romans continues to show that as creator God can do whatever he wants with his creation and creatures. God uses us for specific purposes in this life and we are all apart of Godââ¬â¢s plan. It is hard to understand Godââ¬â¢s decision to create creatures just for condemnation but this is reality. Romans 9:22 states, ââ¬Å"What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction. â⬠In the end man chooses sin and can only choose sin. Whether or not predestination is true, man goes to hell because of his decision. Some other verses regarding the election are found in Romans 11:5, 7, and 28. The third point in Calvinism is particular redemption known more commonly as limited atonement. This is explained through the work of Christ on the Cross. Christ only atoned for those whom God chose to be saved by grace. Therefore Christ didnââ¬â¢t die for the whole world but instead died for those who were called (the elect). Romans 8:30 also demonstrates this point. Christââ¬â¢s power on the Cross was eternal. Therefore with this kind of power Christ had to only died for those who God chose and believed in Him because if Christ had redeemed the whole world then the whole world would be blameless before God and saved. If Christ had died for the world then he would have died for those who have already gone to hell. This limits Christââ¬â¢s power and ultimately makes Christââ¬â¢s role in this world for sinners meaningless. The fourth point of Calvinism is the efficacious call of the Holy Spirit also known as irresistible grace. The Holy Spirit uses the gospel to call people to himself and God. He calls the elect from the inside and places a desire for God in their hearts. This call of the Holy Spirit is irresistible meaning that man cannot resist the power of the Holy Spirit. Those who were called by the Spirit were saved by Christ on the Cross and justified in the sight of God. The Holy Spirit is also powerful and his calling is irresistible. Whenever the bible speaks of the calling of God this is reference to the calling of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 1:15-16 states, ââ¬Å"But when he who called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with anyone. â⬠Paul constantly suggests that we are called by his Grace. The fifth and final point of Calvinism is the perseverance of the saints. This is the security that believers have in Christ to never fall away from the hand and hold of Christ. All believers are eternally secure in Him. No one or nothing can separate God from His elected. We are saints in Gods sight. Romans 8:38-39 proves this point which states, ââ¬Å"For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. This shows that nothing can be taken away from Godââ¬â¢s hands or snatched out of His fingers. Christ is powerful and Satan can do nothing against the power of God. This verse specifically names many things and some powerful things but nothing can take believers away from Christ. Believers cannot loose their salvation. If believers could loose their salvation then God is limited and the devil is more powerful than God. This would also negate Jesus and his role on earth. Paul speaks of the righteousness of believers in Christ in Galatians 3. Paul begins to talk about being in the spirit or having salvation and suggesting to them that they are foolish because they are in sin and their fleshly desires are dominating. Paul continues to talk about the promise given to Abraham, which is eternal life. This covenant and promise that believers have in Christ is eternal and not moving or changing. This shows that believers cannot loose their salvation but instead they were not saved in the beginning or they are struggling with their sin. Predestination is clear to some but not to others many also use verses in Romans and Galatians that point away from Calvinism. Romans 5:18-19 states, ââ¬Å"Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the ones manââ¬â¢s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one manââ¬â¢s obedience the many will be made righteous. â⬠This verse shows that condemnation is for all men, which is direct and true but then Paul says that Christââ¬â¢s act on the cross leads to justification and life for all men. If this were true then all men would be saved. Therefore, Paul here is talking about all believers. Romans 10:13-14,17 also states, ââ¬Å"For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But how are they to call on him whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? So faith comes form hearing, and hearing from the word of Christ. â⬠This verse also shows that those who call on Christ are saved. Many take this verse to mean that humans have a choice to call on God while they are in sin and that this leaves no grounds for unconditional election. Man cannot call unto God unless the Holy Spirit has worked in their hearts so that they no longer are subject to the power of sin and the blindness that comes from sin. Predestination is a powerful view and is debated among many but the most important fact about the Christian life is not the small things of doctrine but instead the Christian duty to go out into the world and preach the Gospel to the nations. Christians are called to serve Christ and build up one another not argue about doctrine. Christ is the most important part of being a Christian and that fact many times is overlooked. The Nymphs Reply to the Shepherd By Sir Walter Raleigh Essay Example For Students
The Nymphs Reply to the Shepherd By Sir Walter Raleigh Essay Within this essay I intend to compare Passionate Shepherd to his Love by Christopher Marlowe which is a ballad and an idyll. With The Nymphs Reply to the Shepherd by Sir Walter Raleigh which is also an idyll. I will focus on the parody aspect of the poem by Raleigh. The first poem Passionate Shepherd to his Love is about a man who lives on his own in the beautiful countryside trying to persuade a woman to live with him and be his love. Bribing her with materialistic gifts. A gown made of the finest wool, We will write a custom essay on The Nymphs Reply to the Shepherd By Sir Walter Raleigh specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Which from our pretty lambs we pull, Fair lined slippers for the cold, With buckles of the purest gold. The second poem The Nymphs Reply to the Shepherd is a reply to the lonely man/shepherd. In it, it states the negative side to what he is offering. It also says that if he can offer her the impossible then she will be his love. But could youth last and love still breed, Had no joys no date nor age no need, Then these delights my mind might move, To live with thee and be thy love. The first line of Marlowes poem Come live with me and be my love Is simply stating what he hopes to achieve by writing the poem. It then goes on to say; And we will all the pleasures proove, That valleys, groves, hills and fields, Woods or steepy mountain yields. Then offering extra, the chance for freedom ad a perfect lifestyle, a sort of dreamlike view of what he would be giving. As well as offering this, he adds beautiful scenery. And we will sit upon the rocks, Seeing the shepherd feed their flocks, By shallow rivers, to whose falls Melodious birds sing madrigals. In each line he seems to be hoping for more than he did in the last for company and to be loved. In the third verse And I will make thee a bed of roses, And a thousand fragrant posies, A cap of flowers and a kirtle Embroidered all with leaves of myrtle. He says that he will give her flowers, enticing her to go and live with him. A gown made of the finest wool Which from which our pretty lambs we pull Fair lined slippers for the cold With buckles of the purest gold. In this verse he offers her gold this is the first item he offers which he would have to pay for. He also emphasises on the fact that they would have pretty lambs. In the penultimate verse he offers her his second item of expense. A belt of straw and ivy buds With coral clasps and amber studs. He also goes on to say that if all seems good enough for her then she should live with him. And if these pleasures may thee move, Come live with thee and be thy love. Here in the last line of the penultimate verse it repeats the first line of the poem emphasising what he wants. In the last verse he says that he will get young country boys to dance for her. The shepherd swains shall dance and sing For thy delight each May morning. This I think would be a gesture to her that he would be unable to complete. The last two lines of the last verse are the same of those in the penultimate verse. If these delights thy mind might move Then live with me and be my love. That if the gestures he has made provoke her attention and make her think twice about having a beautiful place to live in then she should live with him. My opinion of this poem is that Marlowe builds up all his ideas on the first line of the first verse because that is what he hops to achieve. .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b , .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b .postImageUrl , .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b , .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b:hover , .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b:visited , .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b:active { border:0!important; } .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b:active , .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u1a0ac58636807d9aebf0c660c2231f1b:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Disabled: The story EssayCome live with me and be my love The poem by Sir Walter Raleigh is a parody of Marlowes. Raleigh is writing in a womans persona. If all the world and love were young, And truth in every shepherds tongue, These pretty pleasures might me move, To live with thee and by thy love. This is idealising all life, mimicing the first as all the way through all it says is about beauty and perfectness of each and every single thing in the countryside. It says that if it is as perfect as he suggested then she will live with him and be his love. In the second verse the writer smacks reality by mentioning what happens in the changing seasons in the countryside saying that beauty will cease and die and that what is being said cannot be true. Here again making a parody of the first poem. Time drives flocks from fields to fold, When rivers rage and rocks grow cold And philomel becometh dumb, The rest complains of cares to come. This thought continues into the first two lines of the next verse. The flowers do fade, and wanton fields To wayward winter reckoning yields. These lines then bringing even more emphasis to the negative view of the countryside and imitating what has been said. In the next two lines the writer says although what he has said is sweet her heart will be bitter and will resent him for being so false, one sided and positive minded. A honey tounge a heart of gall, Is fancys spring but sorrows fall. The fourth verse starts by using all the natural offerings. Thy gowns, thy shoes, thy bed of roses, Thy cap, thy kirtle, and thy posies. But then turns to the negative point of view and says that all natural possessions eventually die and become rotten, mocking what Marlowe promises. Soon break, soon wither, soon forgotten, In folly ripe, in reason rotten. The penultimate verse lists all the gifts offered of expense. Thy belt of straw and ivy buds, Thy cord clasps and amber studs. It then goes on to say that whatever is offered she will not go and live with him and be his love. All these in me no means can move, To come to thee and be thy love. In the last verse, the writer questions himself. But could youth last and love still breed, Had joys no date nor age no need. He is wondering if eternal youth would be possible. But then realises that it is impossible. Here imitating Marlowes poem yet again saying that everything he says is impossible. This verse states that if she could be given the impossible eternal youth then she might consider going to live with the shepherd and being his love but as he cant offer her this she wont. Here he is mocking Marlowes poem bringing the hopes of his poem to an end. In my opinion this poem brings out the negative point of view of what has been said in a positive romantic way in the first poem. In Marlowes poem the images I have are rural life with peace and tranquillity and beautiful things And we will sit upon the rocks, Seeing the shepherd feed their flocks By shallow rivers, to whose falls, Melodious birds sing madrigals. In Raleighs poem you can see a much different picture. It is of a dark place with fading countryside and dreary weather. Time drives the flocks to field from fold, When rivers rage and rocks grow cold, And philomel becometh dumb, The rest complains of cares to come. In Marlowes poem he uses metaphors And I will make thee a bed of roses, And a thousand fragrant posies. This makes the poem seem unrealistic although it has an air of romanticism. He also uses enjambment between lines. Raleigh uses alliteration in his poem. .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98 , .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98 .postImageUrl , .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98 , .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98:hover , .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98:visited , .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98:active { border:0!important; } .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98:active , .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98 .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u405457d27412ede87ab3ef1a0e1cdb98:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Poetr of Wilfred Owen (Speech) EssayTime drives the flocks from field to fold, When rivers rage rocks grow cold. The R sound evokes a sense of coldness of the water, like the coldness of a nymphs heart. In the first poem four of the five senses are used to evoke the readers reactions. Thousand fragrant posies. This would make the reader feel happy, by making them think of the scent that would surround them. The next is sound Melodious birds sing madrigals. By doing this Marlowe hopes to win over the attention of the nymph. It also helps to make the readers feel as if they are there. A gown made of the finest wool. This sense of touch helps the readers feel what it would be like. For the last sense, Marlowe uses sight; And we will sit upon the rocks. Making the reader think that of beautiful scenery and trying to win them over. In Raleighs poem he also uses senses to provoke the reader. He uses The philomel becometh dumb. Thy belt of straw and ivy buds. The flowers do fade, and wanton fields. He uses all these to get the attention of the reader although in both poems they are used in a different context. In Raleighs poem it just helps him put across the negative side and emphasises on the fact that his poem is a parody of Marlowes. I think that Marlowe decided to write his poem in this way because it is about love and love is quite simple once it has been found. The poems rhyme consists of aabb rhyming couplets in both poems for example in Marlowes poem, Love, prove. Fields, yields. And in Raleighs poem, Buds, studs. Forgotten, rotten. When read aloud the rhythmic tone of Marlowes poem is gentle, calm and loving. While the rhythmic tone of Raleighs poem is jagged, rough and flowing. I think Marlowe has chosen a calm, gentle and loving poem because he is trying to persuade a woman to love him. Raleigh chose his poem to be jagged and because he is mimicking Marlowes poem in structure and form although he is quite brutal in his choice of words. The choice of Marlowes words in his own poem makes it sound romantic and full of love. Come live with me, and be thy love. This sounds as though he just wants to be loved. And we will all the pleasures prove. He is just restating that all he wants is for the girl to love him. Marlowe uses specific words to place pictures in the readers mind, Bed of roses. He says this as roses are a symbol of love and thats what he hopes to achieve. For thy delight. He will do anything to make her happy. Marlowe groups the words to effect the poem in that it is made to sound more romantic. Raleighs words group together to create a large mocking effect on Marlowes poem. Conclusion In my opinion Marlowe is trying to show the reader that he is trying hard to win a womans love. I think the way he offers his gifts could be quite persuasive because if someone had always dreamt of being showered with gifts and living in perfect surroundings, then they may decide to go and live with him. Raleigh is highlighting his opinion of the countryside and love. It is mainly negative. A honey tongue, a heart of gall, Is fancys spring, butà sorrows fall. He is communicating to the reader that he is mimicking Marlowe by doing this. I thin k that when Marlowe wrote the poem he was lonely and wanted somebody to love him, and so these feelings were put into the poem. While on the other hand Raleigh, I feel was unable to trust anybody to love him and/or find anybody to love and so he mocks Marlowe for wanting love.

Psychology (imagery usage) The WritePass Journal
Psychology (imagery usage) Introduction Psychology (imagery usage) IntroductionReferencesRelated Introduction For a number of years imagery has been known to be an effective method to enhance athletic performance and sporting success. Currently Imagery researchers have majorly became interested in the mechanisms behind imageryââ¬â¢s performance-enhancing effects and how these can be maximized. It has also transpired through neuroscience research that a ââ¬Å"functional equivalenceâ⬠exists between imagery and performance of a skill or movement, as they are both triggered by the same neurophysiological processes (Decety Jeannerod, 1996). A cognitive neuroscience approach to motor imagery in sport was presented by Holmes and Collins (2001) they examined current research efforts in neuroscience and applied the findings to developing a deeper understanding of motor imagery as athletes commonly use it. In particular, they highlighted the implications of the notion of the functional equivalence of the motor imagery and motor execution systems for sport psychologists. As a result, it has become one of the most popular psychological strategies employed by athletes, coaches, and sport psychologists. Holmes and Collins (2001) developed a PETTLEP model that included 7 different factors: Physical, Environment, Task, Timing, Learning, Emotion and Perspective. The PETTLEP model recommends that influencing the physical nature of imagery to near motor preparation will stimulate the peripheral receptors that are related with task execution and increase the psychophysiological congruence of motor preparation and motor imagery at the central sites, ultimately strengthening the memory trace (Beisteiner, Hà ¶llinger, Lindinger, Lang, Berthoz, 1995). Imagery has been defined as ââ¬Å"using all the senses to re-create or create an experience in the mindâ⬠(Vealey Greenleaf, 2001). Imagery is widely known to be used in any physical activity to improve performance, skill and change behavioural problems. Imagery in sport is a form of stimulation which is similar to a real sensory experience, except imagery stimulation occurs in the mind. Imagery can also be known as ââ¬Ëvisualizationââ¬â¢ and there are 4 different types of senses which are all important and they are known as the kinaesthetic, auditory, tactile and olfactory senses but the kinaesthetic sense to athletes is the most important one because when our body moves in several ways we can feel it and this helps athletes improve performance. Through imagery you are able to re-create positive experiences that have previously happened or picture new events to prepare yourself mentally for performance. Holmes and Collins suggested that all athletes should be actively i nvolved in the imagery experience. (Adapted from Holmes and Collins, 2001, 2002) The PETTLEP model of intervention are useful in daily clinic to facilitate learning, performance skills, strategies, modifying cognitions, regulating arousal and competitive anxiety in the handling of athletes and sports performance. For example if there was a football team that wanted to use imagery to prepare for the possibility of going to penalties of a tournament, the PETTLEP model would be: Physical: The players would imagine being in shortage of breath and they would even make themselves shortage of breath prior to imaging to stimulate the state they would be in during a match. The players could then perform the imagery in the standing stance wearing their kit and boots in the exactly same way they would when they practise or actually taking a penalty. Environment: à When wanting to create an atmosphere the imagery used would be in the competition scene using photos, videos and sounds of the crowd to make an environment as if the players are actually taking a penalty. Task: Should be reflected in the image which means each player should focus internally and concentrate on factors such as which corner in the goal they are going to place the ball. Each player should include prompts they would work on when taking an actual penalty an example of this would be, never look at the goalkeeper and just solely focus on the ball and wait for the referees whistle to begin their run up. This should be mirrored in the imagery picture as a result. Timing: The penalty planning and carrying out the run up and flight of the ball should be imaged in real time. Learning: When the athletes manage to master the technique then they can then move onto other elements such as the changes in emotion they would start to experience as they become a talented penalty taker. Emotion: Footballers are encouraged to add in the appropriate emotions they experience when going to take a penalty so they get used to these emotions and learn to relate them with success. Addition of related emotion will help increase the vividness of an image. Perspective: If the footballers view the technique of taking a penalty, they may perform the imagery from an external visual perspective. However they may prefer to use internal visual imagery when wanting to view the factors they will focus on when making their preparations for the penalty. As a result each footballer should consider which visual perspective is best and switch between the two. Holmes and Collins (2001), ââ¬Å"PETTLEP modelâ⬠was said that there is evidence especially when mixing physical and environmental strategies in terms of conducting imagery on field (I.e. rehearsing imagery of kicking a football penalty on the field instead of imagining this while at home). The SIQ questionnaire is an well-organized way of gaining knowledge about the athletes ability to conduct imagery. The next step would be to develop an efficient imagery intervention, that could develop the athleteââ¬â¢s ability. Ethical Issue relate to Women Having Children with Unkown Sperm Donors Essay
Ethical Issue relate to Women Having Children with Unkown Sperm Donors - Essay Example 645). Sperm banks get sperm donors from colleges and through the internet. Screening test carried out to ensure the sperm donor is free from genetic diseases, and is of sound mind and intelligence. A number of ethical considerations have risen because of women having children with unknown sperm donors. Sperm donation takes place through artificial insemination. A couple chooses a donor with regard to race, intelligence and good health among other issues (Liou, 2011, p. 7). Technological advancement has assisted older women to bear children. In addition, married infertile men also use sperm donation services to conceive children. The technology has been embraced by many people especially women who wish to bear children at their 40s and 50s. Nonetheless, some ethical and legal issues have emerged where a third party is involved. Therefore, when undertaking unknown sperm donation by a couple the following ethical considerations, should be considered: such as if the sperm donor has legal rights that protect him from any problems that may arise in the future (Liou, 2011, p. 7). In the past, the donors chose to remain anonymous, stating they did not want to get in touch with the donor children. However, due to the curiosity of the donor children, sperm donors have the option of either remaining anonymous or choosing their identity to be known. The donor also has the freedom of being free from any responsibility to the biological child originating from his sperm (Seibel & Crockin, 2010, p. 25). When it comes to the client seeking sperm donation services some information ought to be made available; for instance, what are the complications associated with artificial insemination. Sperm donation activity is not always successful therefore; some treatments ought to be considered before one is eligible for artificial insemination. The sperm bank availing the sperm does not give a guarantee to the client if the sperm is free from genetic diseases (Seibel & Crockin, 2010, p. 26). Even though, genetic screening test is undertaken prior to the procedure, it does not guarantee that the sperm is free from genetic diseases and abnormalities. In addition, the client is also required to be fully responsible for the donor child. The sperm donor and the client rights are usually established under a written contract, signed by the two and the doctor. The agreement ensures that the client and the sperm donor are aware of their rights with regard to the whole procedure. Sperm banks have their specifications when it comes to the sperm they take from donors. A manââ¬â¢s education and personal outlook are taken into consideration. Age also matters, men above the age of forty are not accepted by any sperm bank (Seibel & Crockin, 2010, p. 27). The sperm banks are required, ethically to ensure that they keep records of the number of children one person has conceived this will be used for future references. Therefore, to curb the issue of ethical controversies ethical principles ought to be applied. This will protect persons conceived through sperm donation and all the participants in the sperm donation transaction. Controlling the number of donor offspring is the first principle. Without proper control, one sperm donor can father over 150 children. For instance, in the United States the technology of artificial insemination is on the rise and the demand for donor sperm have risen, as well (Liou, 2011, p. 7). However, the demand

Self-monitoring and self-management of oral anti-coagulation therapy Essay
Self-monitoring and self-management of oral anti-coagulation therapy practice - Essay Example Todayââ¬â¢s healthcare practice is changing rapidly and thus, provision of patient care and management is shifting from institutional-based management to home-based care where patients can test their status and manage the condition, especially for medical conditions that are not curable but only manageable such as diabetes. One of the testing and management practice being prompted and is gaining popularity in the healthcare sector is the Oral Anti-Coagulation Therapy Practice for patients (Ansell, et al., 2005). This paper concerns the designing of a plan aimed at changing our patients habit from that of going to the lab in hospitals and other healthcare facilities just to get their International Normalized Ratio (INR) testing done to getting these patients who have the capacity to learn how to use a home based testing device for INR instead of seeking lab based testing. The idea behind this concept is the fact that this process is fairly simple and if patients are well educated, they can easily do the test accurately and without any hustle (Baglin, et al., 2005). Besides, home based INR testing devices will be able to give results required in a very short while, actually immediately, just like it is the case for those diabetic patients who normally test for their daily levels of glucose. This is not the case when they seek lab based testing since the process takes 24 hours to get the results due to the large number of patients who might need the same service and the fact that in many instances, the medical practitioners do not match the number of patients.... It is a medical fact that any change in the health, lifestyle or drugs in a patientââ¬â¢s life could quickly interfere and alter the oral anticoagulantââ¬â¢s effectiveness in managing such conditions. What makes it even worse is the fact that each patient reacts differently to these drugs thus the need for regular monitoring of the therapy. However, I tend to think, based on reviews done, that there are strategies that could be used to improve the situation and have these patients self-monitor and self-manage their condition. The evidence based model for change has been derived from a thorough theoretical and research literature that is related to various research utilizations, change theory and the current evidence-based practice within the field (Rosswurm, 1992). This model has a guideline to medical practitioners for changing the normal practice to evidence based practice. Various stages have been proposed for effective implementation of this model. These start with step one where the need for change in the healthcare practice is done. In regard to this, the carrying out of an Oral Anti-Coagulation Therapy at home has been identified as the need for change where patients would have to test and manage their condition at home as is opposed to seeking lab testing. The need is therefore to help patients test their condition at home to establish their INR level within the required range. The reason for doing this comes from the fact that patients have been dissatisfied with the current trend of lab based testing which takes longer to process. The quality of the data got will also be reliable since it will be fresh and immediately established for quick action to
